Become A Bitcoin Developer: Basic 101 - Blockgeeks

Official Spreadcoin Reddit | Decentralize Everything | Decentralized Block-Explorer Coming

Spreadcoin is a crypto-currency project that strives to remain true to the principles of decentralization instilled by its original mastermind developer, Mr. Spread. After Mr. Spread left, the current developer, Georgem, took the lead and is working on his own implementation of Service Nodes: an overlay network that will eventually be used to run decentralized services and to incentivize the operation of full Bitcoin nodes.

For BTC it's often claimed that "nobody is in control". That is not true because contentious additions like Segwit and the LN were added. The people merging those changes and the people paying them are the ones in control of BTC. They are running it into the ground.

Once upon a time Segwit had less than 30% of miner support. At that time, a comprise was made: raise the blocksize to 2mb and Segwit would be included. Developers were working together for once to advance BTC.
Then at the last minute, after Segwit was activated, that 30% shamefully pulled back from the agreement, leaving BTC in a state where Segwit existed without the promised blocksize increase. It was a perfect example of a bait-and-switch.
As a result, most of the prolific and older Bitcoin developers left after they were lied to and disrespected (some had left before then). This caused Bitcoin Cash to fork right before Segwit activation. Segwit included changes the block-fee dynamics - a highly controversial change - that most people didn't want. Forking also prevented Segwit's technical debt from entering the Bitcoin Cash codebase. Segwit isn't even necessary for the Lightning Network to exist. Many saw it as a pointless and overly complex addition.
From here forward BTC became controlled by Blockstream-paid developers. BTC, in its current form, is a centralized coin controlled by people who are paid by a company that took 70+ million from the legacy banking industry. There is an old quote, "you can't get a man to understand something when his job depends on him not understanding it." This is true for most BitcoinCore developers.
BTC has became harder to use over time while Bitcoin Cash is getting continual upgrades. Bitcoin Cash keeps the vision of peer-to-peer electronic cash outlined in Satoshi's whitepaper: https://www.bitcoin.com/bitcoin.pdf
The price changes you are seeing, people selling BTC for BCH and miners switching from BTC to BCH, is because the markets are catching up to this reality. Bitcoin (Cash) is usable where BitcoinCore (BTC) is overly complex. BitcoinCore doesn't scale on-chain not because it isn't possible but because their developers chose not to.
You might think, "it's such a coincidence that developers paid by legacy-banking money (AXA) would try to stifle on-chain growth." We all knew that legacy banks would do just about anything to prevent Bitcoin from eating their lunch. It makes too much sense that they would do so by trying to kill bitcoin from the inside: buying off BitcoinCore developers.
Luckily in a few years, BitcoinCore probably won't exist, there will just be Bitcoin (BCH).
I hope this historical info is useful to new users wondering why people keep saying that Bitcoin Cash is Bitcoin.

There is an adage in open source software that given enough eyes, all bugs are shallow and easily discoverable. The 1mb cap was a temporary limit meant to be increased. Bitcoin Core decided to censor the forums they controlled instead of fix the bug.

Bitcoin Core's market share has taken a drastic dive as a result of their actions. The most reputable, non-corrupted Bitcoin developers left the BitcoinCore project for Bitcoin (Cash) and other projects. BitcoinCore gave their competitors an opening by refusing to fix a simple problem in the protocol. This was either hubris, willful negligence or both.
Further, I believe that over time Bitcoin Core will have more and more flaws due to lack of developers being able to find bugs. Fewer eyes -> less secure -> more bugs.
I'll just leave you with the Satoshi quote on lifting the blocksize:
It can be phased in, like: if (blocknumber > 115000) maxblocksize = largerlimit It can start being in versions way ahead, so by the time it reaches that block number and goes into effect, the older versions that don’t have it are already obsolete.

Bored? Looking for something to do? Start with this list of things to do in the Sacramento area.

(Credit for the below list has to be given to u/BurritoFueled, who created the original list in 2014 and updated it a year later. Almost two-thirds of the items below are still from that original list. All I’ve done with the list is revive it a little bit by updating dead links and making little tweaks when necessary. Also, thanks to those that submitted new additions to the list last week. Over a third of the below items are new and a lot of the original items have had newer information added onto them.)
People are always looking for something to do around here. Maybe you’re a transplant, unaware of what this area has to offer, or maybe you’re a lifelong resident, tired of the same old thing. Well friend, if you fall into the latter category, do not despair. There’s actually plenty of things to do in the Sacramento area – things of interest to almost any lifestyle, personality, or budget.
So, whether you’re an athlete, geek, eccentric, hipster, weirdo, sexual deviant or just a normal person looking for a new activity, below is a list of activities for you to try. Please note that it includes only activities that take place at least a few times a year – no one-off events or festivals here.
Enjoy this list. If you have any suggestions of your own to add, comment below in this thread. I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible.
Away we go.
UPDATED 10-6-20
(Note: Due to the current pandemic, some of these activities may be curtailed or not offered at all.)

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.
That being said, the community has been recommending two services in particular, XMR.TO and MorphToken. These services are only recommendations and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. Be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:
  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.
Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.
You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.
If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy (+70 GB) and constantly growing. There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.
Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. You can find a list of public remote nodes on MoneroWorld.
Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.
To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

[Crosspost]I am Ryan Quinn, candidate for Iowa House District 57 AMA!

EDIT: AMA HAS CONCLUDED. Click HERE to read Ryan Quinns answers on everything from Bitcoins to Term limits to Labor laws and more. VoteDEM hosts a down-ballot Democratic candidate for an AMA every wednesday.
I am Ryan Quinn and I am a Democrat running for The Iowa Legislature in House District 57. I am a software engineer by trade but have always been passionate about politics and have volunteered on campaigns often since first going door to door with my parents canvassing in 1984. I have been a supporter of open source software throughout my career having created the SymphonyOS Linux distribution in 2004. I've worked both for local companies in web development and for global companies having first joined DigitalOcean as one of the first twenty employees and helped in it's growth to nearly 700 people when I left and now working in Developer Relations at MongoDB as a remote employee helping to build community and promote education in tech.
In 2018 I spent most weekends leading up to the election driving the Democratic candidate for this seat as she canvassed across Dubuque County. This year I was concerned as the primary season went by without a Democratic candidate stepping up and in August I reached out to friends with the county party to learn how I could help us win back this seat.
I was told that the party had not been able to find a candidate despite this district having more registered Democrats than Republicans and it having been a Democratic district prior to the current incumbent's two terms. Most candidates for public office spend months making a decision and putting things in motion but I was told that the special nomination convention would be in just two days. Having the passion and ability to seek this office and knowing the alternative would be an uncontested seat I felt compelled to step up. I spoke with my wife and kids and before the end of the week I was the nominee for Iowa House District 57.
Since kicking off my campaign in mid August I have found a great group of volunteers, found support from my friends and co-workers and benefited from the assistance of other local Democratic legislators and the county party. Starting from zero we now have over 200 yard signs out around the county, delivered a direct mail piece to all 3550 Democratic and No Party households voting absentee and placed door hangers at another 2000 homes. Without direct support from the state party or large PACs we created radio and video ads in-house which are now running on five local radio stations and on YouTube and Facebook.
While this race is an uphill battle it is winnable! District 57 includes most of Dubuque County outside the city and consists of rural areas, small towns and suburbs. With factories, farms and tourist attractions the district is a microcosm of Iowa. Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by a couple hundred with a large contingent of No Party voters.
The key issues that are important to me are:

NEW PRODUCTS FOR THE CRYPTOCURRENCY WORLD POWERED BY ($S4F)

NEW PRODUCTS FOR THE CRYPTOCURRENCY WORLD POWERED BY ($S4F)
Hello Crypto World!
There is news:
We are getting closer and closer to the official date of the S4FE launch:
Saturday, November 14th, 2020
What will happen on that date?
S4FE can proudly look back on three years of product development and announce that the S4FE rockets will start on November 14th, 2020.
The following products are published and made available to the public:
Launch of the S4FE search engine, available online from November 14th, 2020, at www.s4fe.io.

https://preview.redd.it/lmyvnvoyzms51.png?width=1916&format=png&auto=webp&s=763f5a00cf51148a7e4cf76e354e43ba308ee533
The S4FE search engine is a public and free search engine for objects of all kinds and will be the link between private customers, producers, law enforcement agencies, and insurance companies.
Private and corporate customers will be able to create a kind of "cloud" (we call it "S4FE").
In this S4FE, valuables can be linked or managed with the digital world.
PoO - Proof of Ownership is being revolutionized.
From November 14th, it will be possible to digitally map an object's ownership and transfer items digitally from "User A" to "User B" via mouse clicks.
The lost and stolen function will also be fully available and usable, which means that objects can be tracked in real-time and reported as stolen in real-time in the event of theft, for example.
For stolen goods, the transport and sale of stolen property is made much more complicated for thieves and can involve some complexities.
During a spontaneous police check, stolen things can appear in the system that was stolen a few minutes ago and have not yet been reported in the police system— the risk of being caught red-handed increases.
The S4FE app contains the same functions as the S4FE search engine, only optimized for IOS and Android devices.
The S4FE app will be available from November 14th, 2020 in the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
The S4FE ST!CKER is a product that we developed to connect physical objects with the digital world.

Es gibt Neuigkeiten:
Wir rücken immer wie näher an das offizielle Datum vom S4FE Launch:
Samstag, 14. NOVEMBER 2020
Was passiert an diesem Datum?
Preisupdates folgen in Kürze.
